Djamila, our outstanding French singer, came from the South of France about thirteen years ago, to live in Devon, UK. She has had a lifelong affection for the chansons of Edith Piaf and can relate directly to the emotional roundabout on which Piaf travelled much of her life. Her passion comes through in her performances which are totally committed and heartfelt.

Basil Bunelik has Ukranian blood and it was whilst living in Lviv, that he learnt piano from an inspirational Armenian. His first professional band, in London, was with Billy Ocean, and it was only later he turned to accordion, first playing with the Balalaika Dance Group and then forming his own instrumental group Troika, which toured arts centres and festivals all over the UK in the 80"s. Later he played klezmer with Merlin Shepherd and formed City Streets Klezmer band based in Exeter. He also accompanies John Holden, one of the few professional balalaika players in the UK.
